What is a DESI?
This is an informal name for people of South Asian descent, particularly those of Indian and Pakistani descent, to self describe each other or their community. This term is rarely ever used outside the South Asian community, and is not, for the most part, considered derogetory. Mostly used by those residing in the western world, DESI is often used to ridicule or define ways of life that a lot of South Asians kept despite being away from their roots. Is posting a picture necessary in order for me to sign up and become a member?
Yes, you must upload a picture to become a member. Though you will be able to vote without a membership, you will miss out on many great features the site has to offer.

What kind of additional images are permitted after join?
After you have joined RTD with your own picture (where your whole face is displayed - we prefer the front pose), you can add more photos in your profile, in your "Self description" or in your Blog.
The additional images that you add in your profile (using "Your Pictures" from the "Member menu" at left) can have you posing with your family members, friends, boyfriend, pets.. or whatever you like. As long as you are in the picture and you do not upload porn, adult, violent, racist, copyrighted or inadeguate material, there should not be any problem.
You may add any kind of pictures (glitters, animated graphics, friends, couple, animals, cars and so on...) in your "Self description" or in your Blog. But remember: no porn, adult, violent, racist or copyrighted material!
What are the image upload restrictions?
All images must be in the file format of: .gif, .jpg, .jpeg.
Why were my pictures deleted or not approved?
There are a variety of reasons for a picture to be deleted:
1. You were not in the picture, or the picture is of you as a child.
2. The picture contained nudity (indecent - wearing less than a bathing suit).
3. The sex of the person in the picture does not match the sex you specified in your profile.
4. Picture has another website’s tag in it. Please upload the original image.
5. You have added some sort of obvious image program filter or effect (negative image is the most common).
6. Picture had excessive writing. Some writing is acceptable, like pointing out who you are in a picture, but please keep it short.
7. Picture's orientation was not correct (it was either rotated sideways (90 degrees left/right) or upside down).
8. Advertisements for any products or services. If you would like to expose your product or service to the RateThisDesi.com users please purchase a banner ad. They are affordable and help keep the site up and running.
9. Picture had a gun in, or a knife/blade being used in a threatening manner.
10. Your picture is copyrighted by someone else.
Pictures can NOT include the following without you also being in the picture: cars, animals, extremely zoomed in photos of body parts, friends, family, boyfriends, girlfriends, celebrities, inanimate objects.
These are just some of the reasons your picture may have been deleted. If your picture was deleted more than once please do not continue to upload it. If you feel your picture was unfairly deleted contact us.
Will posting a picture result in it remaining on your site forever?
No, deleting is permitted at any time.
How can I remove any of my images once they are uploaded?
Login to your account, go to the members area -> your pictures. Once there check the "Delete Pic" box under the picture you would like to delete and click "Save Changes".
What does "Queued" mean, when talking about my picture's status?
That means your picture is still waiting for approval/rejection.
Why i can't log-in after registration?
This could be because of number of reasons:
1. Maybe you have not verified you account by clicking the link in your mailbox. Make sure you entered the correct address.
2. Maybe your first image is not yet approved... sometimes this can take some hours.
3. Maybe your first image was not approved because you didn't respect our policy and the admins simply ignored you and deleted your account without notice.
I never received the validation code. What happened?
This could be because of number of reasons:
1. Maybe you entered the wrong email address while registering. If you suspect this is the case, contact RTD admin.
2. Maybe the validation email landed in your email account's spam folder.

Please contact us with your username and the offenders username. If at all possible please try to include proof (other pictures).

How can i delete my account?
